"I firmly believe that everyone deserves clothing that fits their bodies well. So much of the clothing we buy isn't shaped like humans at all.
It is my mission to help you understand that your body is not the problem, the clothing we are tying to stuff ourselves into is the problem. Our clothing industry contributes to the global mental health crisis by exacerbating poor body image because we are conditioned to think that something is wrong with our shape if the clothes don't fit.
I am passionate about changing this narrative with the ability to modify existing clothing so it is shaped like the humans wearing them. Many folks who learn sewing to solve fit challenges are creating garments from the beginning, which is a great solution for one's personal hobby to meet their own fitting needs. However, professional sewing in the custom made garment space isn't a financially accessible option for most of us, making it a difficult business to run with limited clients.
Alterations to ready made garments are much more financially accessible and serve a wider range of people. The biggest hurdle? There isn't a great way to learn alterations from an educational environment, until now.
Here at Sewing by Carolyn, we have been producing top quality results in the alterations field for more than 30 years. We absolutely feel the effects of the Boomer generation of sewists retiring all around us and I refuse to allow that knowledge to be lost.
